Borussia Dortmund v Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético Madrid v Liverpool (both 9pm)
Liverpool resume their defence of the title they won for the sixth time last season with a trip to Madrid to face Diego Simeone’s side at Wanda Metropolitano, the same ground where the English champions won the showpiece match last May against Tottenham.
While Liverpool are waiting to be crowned the champions of the English topflight league yet again, injury-hit Atleti struggle this season and have recorded just one victory in their last seven games. They have equally exited from the domestic cup competition and have a batch of new players struggling to assimilate into the style.
Both sides are however balanced in terms of head-to-head record of one win each and two draws, as well as four goals apiece.
Atlético eliminated Liverpool in their only knockout tie in the 2009/10 Europa League semifinal, which the Spanish team went ahead to win that season. The only time both teams met in the Champions League was at the group stages in 2008/09. Each fixture ended 1-1.
In the other match of the night, PSG wait to welcome Neymar back to the squad after missing the last four games due to injury.
The French champions are desperate to end the voodoo of the first knockout stage of this competition having exited at this stage in the last three seasons.
To add spice to the night, PSG coach Thomas Tuchel will be returning to Dortmund tonight, the club he managed from 2015 to 2017.
PSG and Dortmund have only one previous encounter in Europe. And that was in 2010/11 Europa League. Both sides shared honours – 1-1 in Dortmund and goalless in Paris.
