2019/20 UEFA Champions League (Round of 16 first leg): Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético Madrid 1-0 Liverpool (both FT)
Today Wednesday 19th Feb. 2020.
Atlanta v Valencia, Tottenham Hotspur v RB Leipzig (both 9pm)
Last year’s finalists Tottenham finished behind Bayern München at the group stage this term and welcome Group G winners RB Leipzig to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London.
Second in the Bundesliga with a point behind Bayern, Leipzig eased to a 3-0 victory against Werder Bremen last Saturday in the domestic league, while Spurs had to wait for a late goal to beat Premier League struggling side Aston Villa 3-2 on the same day.
José Mourinho’s side will be without in-form striker Son Heung-min, the hero of the come-back win at Aston Villa. This adds to the list that includes long-time absentee Harry Kane. The South Korean had surgery on a broken arm and may be out for the rest of the season.
The German side’s squad includes one of Europe’s in-form strikers Timo Werner who has banged in 25 goals in 31 games in all competitions this season. He will be watched out for as both sides go head-to-head for the first time in Europe.
In Milan, Atalanta, who scraped through the group stage with only seven points from six matches, face Valancia, winners of the group that included Chelsea.
Atalanta come from behind to beat city rivals Roma 2-1 last Saturday in the Serie A and placed fourth on the log.
In only their debut season in this competition, Gian Piero Gasperini has taken his squad to the last 16. And with no injury concerns, he will hope that it can even get better.
Atalanta are playing at the San Siro because their Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, which is 55 kilometres away, does not meet UEFA standards.
This is the first time a team from Bergamo will be facing a Spanish team in a competition game.
Have a blessed day, all!
