HEARTLAND FC GETS SECOND CONSECUTIVE HOME WIN AFTER COMING FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT AKWA UNITED.

Action commenced at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri between Heartland Fc and Akwa United in the Nigeria Professional Football League ( NPFL ) match day 6 fixture on Sunday 24th January 2021.

Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu made one change to the team that lost in Port Harcourt to Rivers United with Chidiebere Ajoku replacing the injured Adachi Emmanuel in attack.

The promise keepers as Akwa United are fondly called were the better side during the first half with Mfon Udoh leading their attack. Friday Ubong got the first corner kick of the match in the 4th minuet while Bright Onyedikachi got the second but first for Heartland fc in the 6th minuet.

The first and only goal for Akwa United came in the 34th minuet after a defensive mix up by Pascal Eze and Kenneth Ikwugbado which enabled Mfon Udoh to slot home beyond a helpless Ikechukwu Ezenwa in goal for the Naze Millionaires.

Heartland started the second half on a brighter note with Samuel Nnoshiri and Bright Onyedikachi tormenting the defense of United which payed off in the 50th minuet when Onyedikachi was hacked down in the penalty area giving the scientific boys the advantage to equalize from the spot.

The calm, calculative and creative Samuel Nnoshiri stepped up and made the game even in the 52nd minuet of the encounter. Pascal Eze made up for his poor clearance in the first half that gifted United their goal as he beat his marker to score what became the match winner for his team in the 79th minuet.

Heartland fc held on until the referee sound his whistle for the end of the match to record their second consecutive victory at home, moving them up to 16th on the log with 6 points while Akwa United slide down to 14th.

Up next for the scientific boys from Owerri is a trip to Kaduna on Sunday 31st January 2021 to tread tackles with Jigawa Golden Stars in the NPFL match day 7 fixture.
