Heartland quest for away win continues, bows to Rivers United 3 – 1 in Port Harcourt.

Heartland fc of Owerri made only one change to the starting eleven that defeated Enyimba of Aba two nil at home in the Nigeria Professional Football league (NPFL) match day 4 with Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa replacing Chijioke Ejiogu in goal at the Adokiyie Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Rivers United started off brightly as Former Heartland fc Striker, Fortune Omoniwari got the first goal scoring opportunity of the highly anticipated encounter as his shot goes wide. Pascal Eze handles the ball in his penalty area to gift United a penalty in the 16th min of the match, he was also cautioned ( yellow card ) for dissent. Godwin Aguda steps up to take the penalty kick which he calmly converted to give Rivers United the lead. Heartland fc responded with lots of attacking threats but had Shadrack Oghali and Adachi Emmanuel to blame for firing blanks at close range.

The second half had lots of attacking display from both teams with Kazie Enyinnaya of Rivers United making it two goals after he was left unmarked in the Heartland fc penalty area by Bright Onyedikachi, his shot went straight into goal beating Ezenwa in the process. United was the first to make substitutions as they brought on three players at once. Heartland fc got a free kick at the edge of United’s penalty area which Samuel Nnoshiri quickly took, Shedrack Oghali made no mistake as he sent the ball past Akande Abiodun’s goal to pull one back as consolidation for the Owerri based side.

Oghali’s third goal in five matches for Heartland could only last for less than ten minuets before substitute Malachi Ohawume former player of the Naze Millionaires restored United two goal lead in the 86th mins scoring from a quick taken free kick similar to Heartland’s goal. The lost is Hearland’s fourth in five matches this Season which sees them deep in the relegation zone.

Up next for the Owerri landlords will be at home to Akwa United on 25/01/2021 in week 6 of the NPFL 21.
